The Texas Driver Safety Course (DSC) is a TDLR-approved 6-hour online defensive driving course. Eligible drivers can use it to dismiss a traffic ticket when allowed by their court, satisfy a court-ordered defensive driving requirement, or request a possible insurance premium discount. A certificate of completion is issued after finishing the course.
What does Texas Adult Driver Education include?
Texas Adult Driver Education (ADE) is a TDLR-approved 6-hour online course for adults 18 and older who are getting their first Texas driver license. The course includes the official DPS written knowledge exam. Upon completion, the ADEE-1317 certificate is issued, which is required as part of the first-time license application at DPS.
What is Texas Parent-Taught Driver Education?
Texas Parent-Taught Driver Education (PTDE) is a TDLR-approved 24-hour online classroom course for teens ages 14โ17. The parent or qualified adult serves as the driving instructor for the behind-the-wheel portion. The course issues DE-964 certificates at the permit and provisional license milestones. This course covers only the classroom portion โ the parent conducts the driving hours separately.
