Driving Logic’s online Florida DETS course is coming soon. DETS (Driver Education Traffic Safety) is the course Florida teens under 18 must complete before applying for their first driver license.
What Is the Florida DETS Course?
DETS is a course of at least 6 hours, approved by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV). It became required on August 1, 2025, for anyone under 18 who has never held a driver license from any state or country. It ends with a 40-question final exam, and you need 80% to pass.
Who Needs DETS?
- Teens under 18 applying for a first Florida learner’s license
- Teens who have never held a license from any state or country
- Not adults 18 and older: they take the 4-hour TLSAE drug and alcohol course instead
