The course includes the official DPS written knowledge exam. Upon completion, the ADEE-1317 certificate is issued, which is required as part of the first-time license application at DPS.

What is Texas Parent-Taught Driver Education?

Texas Parent-Taught Driver Education (PTDE) is a TDLR-approved 24-hour online classroom course for teens ages 14โ€“17. The parent or qualified adult serves as the driving instructor for the behind-the-wheel portion. The course issues DE-964 certificates at the permit and provisional license milestones. This course covers only the classroom portion โ€” the parent conducts the driving hours separately.
